The Marangu Route is the oldest route on Mt Kilimanjaro. It is a short route and is different than the other routes in two ways. First, this route features overnights in huts instead of tents. The huts are very basic dormitory style with solar panel lighting. Second, it is the only route where the path down is the same as the path going up. Since climbers going both directions stay at the same camp, it is more crowded. It is also not as scenic as the other routes. Due to the extra comfort of the huts, and short number of days needed, this route is chosen by many less committed climbers. In addition, with the short number of days to acclimatize to the altitude, this route has a lower success rate. This route is offered as either a 5 days or 6 days itinerary. We strongly suggest the 6 days version if possible for a better chance for a successful summit.
